COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 15-year-old boy died after being struck by a car Tuesday afternoon in east Columbus.
The driver of the Pontiac Bonneville was driving south on James Road while trying to put her daughter in the back seat, according to a Columbus police accident report.
The driver told officers she looked up and saw traffic stopped. She applied her brakes, but they were faulty and she swerved to the right to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of her.
The report states that the driver pulled over and hit the teenager.
The teenager was taken to Grant Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel later pronounced him dead.
Police said the driver remained at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
