BAXLEY, OH – Bexley Board of Education on Tuesday night voted to fire the teacher after a racist incident two weeks ago at the high school.
Principal Jason Fine sent an email to parents Friday night informing them that the teacher had resigned. The resignation had to be voted on by the council before it became official.
On Feb. 3, the school district said an image reading the morning announcements appeared on a green screen behind two students. After the students read a fact about Black History Month, a picture of an orangutan eating a watermelon appeared.
Video ads are recorded on the Friday before airing. It’s unclear if anyone watched the video before it aired.
The incident outraged parents, one of whom threatened to sue the district if the teacher was not fired. Students also walked out on Friday afternoon in protest.
