The overpass is potentially facing a lengthy shutdown as crews work to repair the damage and a section of I-75 was not fully repaired by the end of Friday.

ROSSFORD, Ohio – Northbound I-75 has been closed since early Friday morning due to a semi truck carrying an oversized load. crashed into the Lime City Road overpass.

The overpass is potentially facing a lengthy shutdown as crews work to repair the damage and a section of I-75 was not fully repaired by the end of Friday.

Nick Pinsky, co-owner of Interstate lanes on Lime City Road said the outage caused a headache for trips to and from the bowling alley. They can find ways around it, but not without a little difficulty.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol agreed that the crash caused inconvenience for drivers and a significant amount of work for crews to repair the damage.

OSHP Sergeant Ryan Purpura said it’s the worst overpass accident he’s seen in his 18 years with the state police.

The driver, Lavaris Root, 43, of Miami Gardens, who authorities say failed to stop after the crash, was arrested and charged with no license, speeding and leaving the scene of an accident.

Noah Heaton, a sophomore at the nearby Penta Career Center, said the early-morning closing is also a headache.

“A lot of people were late for school and had to postpone their attendance because a lot of buses were late,” said Heaton, who also works at Interstate Lanes.

Pinsky said this is not the first major accident on the Lime City Road overpass.

The second-generation business owner remembers a previous incident about 10 years ago. Since the bowling alley has been open since 1981, Pinsky doesn’t recall any major conflicts during the first incident on Lime City Road.

“We don’t see a negative impact at this point,” Pinsky said. “There are many ways to get here. You can put on Waze, put on Google Maps and find a safe way to get here.”

A complete overhaul of the overpass won’t be a quick fix, said ODOT District 2 Public Information Officer Kelsey Hoagland.

“We have to go through our traditional bidding process to find a contractor that can do these repairs, so it will probably take weeks or months,” she said. “But right now we have our emergency contractor on site actually doing the deconstruction so we can reopen the interstate.”

ODOT aims to reopen two lanes of northbound I-75 sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. Saturday.
