CLEVELAND – A Norfolk Southern employee has died following an incident at Cleveland after a collision between a Norfolk Southern train and a Stein Inc. dump truck. early Tuesday morning.
A spokesperson for Cleveland-Cliffs told 3News it happened on the Norfolk Southern rail line that runs through the Cleveland Works Cleveland-Cliffs property.
“A Norfolk Southern employee was killed as a result of the collision,” the spokesman said in an email. “The site is under the control of Cleveland and South Norfolk Police.”
3News also obtained the following statement from Cleveland Police:
The Cleveland Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to 2615 W. 3rd Street for a fatal accident involving a vehicle that struck a train. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
No additional information was immediately available.
South Norfolk has been in the headlines for weeks since last month a toxic train derailed in eastern Palestine.
On Monday, Norfolk Southern released a six-point plan to “immediately improve the safety of its operations” after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released a preliminary report on the East Palestine incident.
