A slippery field creates problems for players in the Super Bowl

GLENDALE, Arizona – The field at the state stadium turned into a Super Bowl slide on Sunday.

Players from both teams struggled to keep up on Sunday, with some switching boots.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes slipped trying to make a cut, but managed to gain a few more yards. Kansas City wide receiver Skye Moore lost his balance on a jet sweep and Isiah Pacheco even slipped during his celebration after scoring.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was among the players who switched cleats to get better traction.

This isn’t the first time this season Kansas City has had problems with the support at State Farm Stadium.

In the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, the Chiefs had all kinds of problems with the playing surface.

First-round pick Trent McDuffie, who won the starting job, injured his hamstring when he slipped and ended up on injured reserve.

Kicker Harrison Butker was also injured when his plantar foot slipped on a kickoff, forcing him to miss games and ultimately change his entire kicking approach for the rest of the season.

The NFL spent nearly two years preparing the field for the Super Bowl. The grass at Saugus Stadium is on a giant tray that rolls in and out of the stadium’s retractable roof.
