Around 12:45 p.m., Columbus Police Department officers were called to the 700 block of West Rich Street for a report of a shooting.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A 16-year-old girl was fatally wounded in a Franklinton neighborhood apartment Tuesday.

Officers from St Columbus Police Dept were called to the 700 block of West Rich Street around 12:45 a.m. for a report of a shooting.

Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene found a girl with a gunshot wound. Officers treated her until the Columbus Fire Department arrived, but she was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:58 p.m.

According to the affidavit, detectives determined that Tejuan Stanley was responsible for the shooting.

Officers arrested Stanley at a bus stop outside a Wendy’s restaurant on West Broad Street shortly after the shooting.

Court records say Stanley admitted to firing a gun aimed at the victim, who has not been identified. A gunshot hit the girl in the head.

Stanley told police he took the gun apart, and when he put it back together, he accidentally put a round in the chamber and didn’t know it was loaded, court records state.

Stanley was charged with negligent homicide and is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail.
