WESTERVILLE, Ohio – A woman has died after she was shot in a parking lot in Westerville on Tuesday, police said.

Blendon Township Police Chief John Belford said officers were dispatched to the Sunbury Plaza parking lot around 5:55 p.m. for a report of a gunshot wound.

Officers found a woman shot to death in a vehicle. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m

Belford said the suspect is at large and police have launched a multi-state investigation, but he does not believe there is a threat to the public.

The chief did not say whether the victim and the suspect knew each other. He did not give a description of the suspect.

The identity of the woman has not been released.
