SUNBURY, Ohio — A student at Big Walnut Local School was injured during Friday’s homecoming parade.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said an 11-year-old boy was hit by a float during a parade on North Miller Drive in Sunbury around 6:50 p.m.

The boy was walking parallel to a Ford F350 that was pulling a float on a trailer. The boy fell and hit the tires on the trailer, the OSHP reported.

The boy was taken to the National Children’s Hospital in critical condition. There was no information about his condition after the crash.

“Earlier this evening, during the homecoming parade, one of our students was seriously injured and taken to the hospital,” Big Walnut Superintendent Ryan McLain said in a voicemail sent to district families obtained by 10TV.

“If you’re so inclined, please send him some positive vibes,” McLain said in the post.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident, and the crash remains under investigation.
