A 50-year-old Colorado woman was arrested after an incident at Walmart.
ALAMOSA, Colorado. This week, people at a Walmart in southern Colorado swung into action to restrain a woman after she grabbed a child from a shopping cart. The Alamos Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday, the department was called to the store at 3333 Clark St. for attempted kidnapping.
When they arrived, they learned a woman had grabbed a small child from a stroller and was trying to abduct the child, police said.
Several other people in the store held the suspect until law enforcement officers arrived. The child returned to her parents and was unharmed.
The suspect, a 50-year-old woman from Blanca, was arrested on multiple charges including kidnapping, criminal threatening, child abuse and disorderly conduct. It is not known if the suspect had anything to do with the child or if the child was targeted at random.
In a statement, Alamosa police thanked “brave citizens” for their vigilance and quick response.
