Warm and humid conditions in central Ohio are beginning to be felt by insects such as termites, ants and stink bugs.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Spring is a long-awaited spectacle for many. This means that warm weather is approaching, but it also means that beetles are also on the way.
Warm and humid conditions in central Ohio are beginning to be felt by insects such as termites, ants and stink bugs. Some of these bugs may have settled in your home in the winter, and you didn’t even know it.
This time of year is a big problem for the hosts. Experts say termites cause about $ 5 billion in damage to buildings each year because they are not controlled.
“So now is the time to take action,” said Eric Scherzinger of Scherzinger Pest Control.
Scherzinger said there are a few simple steps you can take to prevent these insects from entering your home.
One step is to remove the firewood stored near the house. Scherzinger said termites and ants love to hang out in piles of firewood and will have no problem finding your home if the forest is near it.
Scherzinger also said it is a good time of year to prune shrubs and inflorescences of trees that are near the house. Insects use these areas as jumping points to get into your home.
Finally, inspect your home to find holes in door and window screens. Remember that these are little living creatures that can find entrances to a house.
“Now these small steps are preventing you from getting serious structural damage to your home caused by termites, ants or other pests,” Scherzinger said.
According to Scherzinger, if you wait too long, a simple fix can turn into an expensive repair.
Experts say the average cost of repairs for a homeowner affected by termites is about $ 3,000. If you get to that point, chances are you’ll also have to spend money to call a pest control service.
