Travis Hussey said he and his 7-year-old son are happy to walk away from the horrific incident.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A father and son are on the mend after the two were hit while riding their scooters together near the Schottenstein Center on Sunday.

Columbus police tell 10TV that the driver is a 19-year-old man and has been charged with driving under the influence.

On Wednesday, 10TV spoke with Travis Hussey, the man riding the scooter.

“I have a lot of pain in my ankle, I’ve had a headache ever since it happened,” Hussey said.

He said he and his 7-year-old son are happy to walk away from the horrific incident.

Hussey said they were from Defiance and were in town for a wrestling tournament with others. They were riding their scooters on Sunday night when they were hit by a car.

“We got hit from behind and the next thing I know, I woke up in the hospital,” he said.

They were taken to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, police said.

Hussey said he forgives the driver, but wants people to be more careful when they’re driving, especially when children are around.

“No matter what you do, something bad can always happen,” Hussey said.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released by the police.
