SHONY – On Sunday night, a fire of unknown origin damaged an estimated $ 50,000 residence in Shawnee.

Firefighters from Shawnee City Fire Department responded at 5:57 p.m. to a report of a garage fire at 5775 Spencerville Road (Route 117). Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke in the attached garage housing. A department spokesman said the fire was extinguished before it spread to the house. The cause of the fire is still being determined, he said.

Shawnee’s firefighters were assisted by mutual assistance from the fire departments of American towns, Lima and Spencerville.

The property, owned by Robert and Joe Ellen Gellart, is valued at $ 191,000, according to the Allen County Auditor’s website.
