Jeff peanut butter is remembered for fear of salmonella

Some Jif peanut butter products are voluntarily recalled, JM Smucker Co. announced Saturday. Foods sold and distributed in the United States and Canada can be infected with salmonella.

At least 14 people in 12 states fell ill from the food and two were hospitalized, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No deaths were reported.

The products have batch codes 1274425 – 2140425, said the Office of Food and Drug Administration, adding that anyone who has these possibly contaminated products should throw them away immediately.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, but we have initiated a voluntary recall of certain Jif products sold in the United States and Canada due to potential salmonella contamination,” the company said in a statement. said on its website.

Salmonella can cause symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. According to the FDA, this can be serious and sometimes fatal for children as well as the weak and elderly.
