A Franklin County jury convicted Christopher Payne last month of shooting a pregnant 15-year-old girl while she was walking with a man in northeast Columbus on August 23, 2020. The shooting happened in the area of ​​Joyce and Denoon avenues in Linden Square.
They were walking down the street when someone from a passing car started shooting at them.
During the trial, the driver of the vehicle testified that Payne fired the weapon at the man in the back seat, but the teenager was hit instead.
At the time of the shooting, the girl was 35 weeks pregnant, according to the prosecutor’s office. She survived her injuries, but the baby, Aster Lewis, died after an emergency C-section.
Payne was found guilty of a dozen counts, including three counts of murder with a weapon and a traffic specification. He will not be eligible for parole until at least 2060.
