Mother, father and daughter will graduate from the same Texas university together

Texas Lutheran University student Ashley Adams is preparing for graduation this month. But Adams’ parents won’t be in the audience cheering her on — they’ll be graduating, too.

For the first time in the university’s history, a mother, father and daughter from the same family will receive a degree at the same time, the school said. news release.

Adams is in education, while her mother, Robin Adams, is pursuing a master’s degree in accounting and her father, Greg Adams, is in business.

Although it’s not the typical college student experience, Ashley Adams said she enjoys having her parents on the same campus as her and supports their higher education decisions.

“My parents didn’t graduate because they wanted to start a family and there were better opportunities at the time to accomplish that goal,” Ashley said in a TLU statement. “I remember how proud I was when they decided to go back to school at the local college.”

Gregg Adams, a retired Army veteran and first-generation college student, and Robin Adams originally pursued degrees at Northeast Lakeview College, but after visiting TLU during their daughter’s senior year, they fell in love with the campus and asked if she was good at the same school as them. she, TLU said.

Ashley Adams said she is excited to have her parents join the Bulldog family. Although surrounded by younger classmates, the parents put their time on campus to good use, with Robin Adams serving as an adjunct instructor in an accounting course and Gregg Adams joining the golf team.

Robin Adams said she is looking forward to celebrating her family’s accomplishments at graduation.

“I’ll be watching my husband and my daughter, and it’s going to be surreal,” she said. “I’m very proud of Ashley, but watching behind the scenes is a very good thing that I would never give up.”

Ashley Adams hopes to become a math teacher in the future, while Robin and Gregg Adams have accepted jobs at CPA firm Forvis and Randolph Air Force Base, respectively, the university said.

“Going back to school and getting a degree after 22 years in the military. Finding time to be an adjunct instructor and help my classmates while pursuing my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I just can’t express how proud and impressed I am,” Ashley said of her parents.

TLU’s commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday.
