City of Perrysburg announced in a press release Wednesday that work to dismantle playground equipment at Woodlands Park will begin the week of Feb. 13, citing the condition of the structure.

According to city officials, the age of the playground and the limited availability of replacement parts have compromised the safety of the equipment. A spokesperson said the nonprofit Missions International of America will be responsible for dismantling, cleaning and re-installing the play equipment during the mission trip to Haiti.

The city is expected to replace the old structure with a new, inclusive playground starting in the spring, with an estimated completion date of June 30.

Woodlands Park Playground is the third Perrysburg playground to be demolished in recent months. In December, children’s equipment was dismantled in the city park and Bicentennial Park. City officials said they will receive replacement equipment by June 30.

The city reminded residents and visitors that playground equipment remains available at Three Meadows, Rivercrest, Eisenhower and Rotary parks.

According to a news release, city officials will use $1.3 million in funding from the Save America Plan Act to fund the construction of the new playground.
