Washington — Rep. Greg Steube, D-Florida, was injured after falling down a ladder while trimming hedges at his home in Sarasota on Wednesday, his office said.

Steub, 44, suffered “multiple serious injuries” after being thrown about 25 feet from the stairs, his office said. series of tweets Thursday.

“The congressman spent the night in the intensive care unit, where several serious injuries are still being evaluated, but at this time they are not life-threatening. He is recovering and in a good mood,” his staff said.

They thanked those who “continue to pray” for the Florida Republican and said Stuebe and his family are “deeply grateful to the team of doctors, nurses and medical staff who are treating him.” His staff also thanked the unnamed man who witnessed Stoib’s fall and called 911.

According to his congressional website, Steube lives in Sarasota with his wife and son.

The Republican congressman has represented the 17th district in south-central Florida since 2018 and serves on the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees. He is an Army veteran who served in Iraq before starting his political career, according to his biography.
