Samsung and Google want to simplify the process of tracking fitness data on different platforms and devices. Both brands have already worked on new Wear OS software for smart watches, and now they want to help sync data between different devices. Google combines Samsung Health, Google Fit and Fitbit data into one platform called Health Connect.

Android itself is quite fragmented, and then you have fitness bras / smart watches that use different apps. So managing them all together was a daunting task.

But Health Connect means you can have a Samsung Galaxy Watch with data recorded using the Google Fit app, and you can store all the details through Health Connect.

So, in essence, Health Connect is a version of Apple Health for Android that allows you to track devices and fitness apps in one place. The company is working with developers such as MyFitnessPal, Withings and Leap Fitness to also integrate its platforms into the Health Connect ecosystem.

At Google I / O 2022 this month, Health Connect was available to developers in beta and opened an API to add a variety of fitness features.

There are more services that can be added to Health Connect, and perhaps Google and Samsung will strive to make things as easy as possible for Android users. Google wants users to be able to control how their data is controlled by these programs on Health Connect, and if there are cases where two programs track the same data, you can decide which one will access your data.
