Fitbit fitness trackers will soon require a Google Account to sign up. The company, now owned by Google, will make it mandatory for its devices to sign in with a Google account starting next year.

According to Fitbit, Google will not use Fitbit’s health and wellness data for Google Ads. Google bought Fitbit to expand its ecosystem of devices, but most products continue to be offered by Fitbit. The change, if it happens, would be Google’s first big move to bring Fitbit under its consumer umbrella.

“Once we launch Google Accounts on Fitbit in 2023, some Fitbit uses will require a Google Account, including to sign in to Fitbit or activate newly released Fitbit devices and features,” the wearable brand said on its support page .

“If you have a Fitbit account, after Google Accounts on Fitbit launches, you’ll have the option to move Fitbit to your Google Account or continue using your existing Fitbit devices and services with your Fitbit account as long as it exists. is supported,” he added.

The company said Google Accounts on Fitbit will support several benefits for Fitbit users, including single sign-on to Fitbit and other Google services, account security, centralized privacy controls for Fitbit user data and other features from Google on Fitbit.

After launching Google Accounts on Fitbit, if you want to switch from your Fitbit account to your Google account, you will need to consent to the transfer of your Fitbit user data from Fitbit to Google.

After the move is complete, you’ll sign in to Fitbit with your Google Account, not your Fitbit Account. Google will then provide Fitbit to you in accordance with Google’s Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Fitbit’s binding obligations.
