Rio de Janeiro — Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro broke into Congress in the Brazilian capital on Sunday, climbing onto the roof and breaking glass in the windows.
Other demonstrators gathered near the presidential palace and the Supreme Court, although it was not yet clear whether they managed to break into the buildings.

The incidents, reminiscent of the January 6 storming of the US Capitol, came just a week after leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was sworn in January 1.
Bolsonaro’s supporters have been protesting Lula’s election victory since October 30, blocking roads, burning cars and gathering outside military buildings, asking the armed forces to intervene.
