Taylor Swift Shines at MTV VMAs 2024, Securing Top Honors and Breaking Records

Taylor Swift took center stage at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, securing the night’s top honor with the Video of the Year award for her hit “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone. In her acceptance speech, Swift expressed gratitude to her “boyfriend, Travis,” referring to NFL star Travis Kelce, and highlighted his positive influence on her music video shoots.

Swift also took the opportunity to encourage her fans over 18 to register to vote, though she refrained from discussing her endorsement of Kamala Harris’ presidential bid that she had previously made.

With this latest win, Swift’s total VMA count reaches 30, tying her with Beyoncé as the most-awarded solo artist in VMA history. Beyoncé holds 25 solo awards, along with two as part of Destiny’s Child and two with Jay-Z as The Carters. Eminem now stands as the male artist with the most VMAs, having earned 14.

Swift and Post Malone also won Best Collaboration for “Fortnight,” an award presented by Flavor Flav and Olympian Jordan Chiles. Earlier in the night, Swift began her acceptance by commemorating those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks, emphasizing the day’s significance over the evening’s festivities.

Chappell Roan, who won Best New Artist, delivered a heartfelt speech dedicated to the drag community and queer and trans people in pop music. Roan, known for her elaborate stage presence, performed “Good Luck, Babe!” with medieval-inspired visuals, earning high praise.

Other notable winners included Sabrina Carpenter, who took home Song of the Year for “Espresso,” and Tyla, who won Best Afrobeats. Katy Perry received the Video Vanguard Award, performing a medley of her greatest hits and teasing a new song.

The ceremony also featured dynamic performances from various artists including Eminem, Megan Thee Stallion, Karol G, and Blackpink’s LISA. The 40th annual VMAs, held at UBS Arena on Long Island, highlighted the rich history of the awards with nods to past iconic moments.

The VMAs were broadcast across multiple platforms, including MTV, BET, and Univision, making it a night of celebration and memorable performances.
