COLUMBUS, Ohio – A swimmer from Ohio State University on Thursday set a world record at the 2022 Phillips 66 International Team Competition in North Carolina.

Hunter Armstrongjunior and 2020 Olympian, finished the 50-meter backstroke in 23.71 seconds, breaking the previous record of 0.09 seconds.

After setting the record, Armstrong said he was not losing words, but gave the achievement to Ohio and his coaches.

“That’s what I’ve always wanted. I’m in my head now,” Armstrong said. “We have a great culture in Ohio, and in many ways this culture that we build from friendship and constantly build each other.

The 21-year-old swimmer ranks 8th in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, according to TeamUSA.org.
