Forecasters say the tornado was confirmed around 7:32 p.m. near the Arabi and Shalmet area. A video taken from WWL-TV viewers captured a tornado moving through the area at the same time.

Entergy Louisiana reports that nearly 4,000 customers have been without electricity in St. Bernard Parish as of 8:20 p.m. All of Arabia and some parts of Chalmet without electricity.

The first reports of significant damage to houses in the area appear on social networks.

“The really bad situation in the homes of Arabi Heights is destroyed,” wrote Twitter user Peter Cook, sharing a video on the social network.
