I-71 northbound south of mile marker 97 near US 62 is closed. Drivers are advised to find an alternative route.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was injured after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 71 in southern Franklin County Monday morning.

OSHP says the trooper was outside his cruiser shortly before 10:44 a.m. when he was rear-ended by a Toyota SUV.

As a result of the accident, the cruiser pushed forward, hitting the landing party.

The trooper and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Since then, the soldier’s condition has improved.

I-71 northbound is closed from US 62 to State Route 665/London Groveport Road. The sheriff’s office says the highway will be closed for a couple of hours. Drivers are advised to find an alternative route.
