GROVE CITY, Ohio – Two Grove City police officers were injured after being dragged by a car during an attempted arrest Thursday, according to Grove City Police Department.

Officers were patrolling Gantz Park near Interstate 270 at Home Road when they found Abel Martinez, who is wanted on multiple warrants. The warrants included violation of a protective order, domestic violence and several theft cases.

When officers approached Martinez in his car, he refused to get out of the car and refused to comply with orders, police said.

Martinez put the car in reverse while struggling with the officers, dragging them between the car and the door. He then drove off in a car with his passengers, Dina Ferris and a young girl.

Both officers suffered lacerations after Martinez hit them with the door and dragged them as he fled.

He was later captured by Reynoldsburg police.

Court records show Martinez is charged with assault and fleeing and eluding. Ferris is charged with aggravated assault for putting the keys back in the car after one of the officers took them out.

Both officers have been released from the hospital and are expected to be OK, police said.
