Two people are dead after a single-engine plane crashes in Westchester County

Two people were killed Thursday night in a single-engine plane crash in upstate Westchester County, New York. CBS New York’s Dick Brennan reports.

The single-engine plane left JFK International Airport at 4:58 p.m. and was headed to Cuyahoga Airport in Richmond Heights, Ohio, authorities said.

The single-engine Beechcraft A36 was about a mile from the Westchester County Airport in White Plains when the pilot reported engine trouble, telling the tower that he had low oil pressure, according to the FAA.

Shortly thereafter, the tower lost radio contact with the aircraft.

County officials said the plane was found late Thursday night in trees near a lake near the airport. The bodies of two people who were on board were also found, officials said.

CBS New York spoke with the owner of the plane, who operates Daviation in Willoughby, Ohio. He said the people on board live in the Cleveland area and are experienced pilots. He said he was devastated by the news.
