VAN WERT – A Van Wert woman who fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident last November has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

On Sept. 28, Van Wert County Circuit Judge Martin Burchfield sentenced Sherry Ramsey, 46, to six years in prison on two counts each of aggravated assault, second-degree felonies, for her involvement in the Nov. 7, 2021, crash at an intersection. Convoy and Richie. The punishment was ordered to be served consecutively. The 12-month sentence for failing to stop after the accident will run consecutively to the other counts.

Prosecutors allege Ramsey caused a 2021 crash when she failed to stop at a stop sign, causing her SUV to crash into a van driven by Matthew J. Oxle from Van Wert. Oechsle was treated for minor injuries and the passenger, Mackenzie Ray of Van Wert, was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with serious injuries.

Ramsey fled the scene of the crime but was later located and arrested in the village of Scott.
