The shooting became the deadliest shooting at a Texas school in history.

WALDE, Texas – At least 21 people were killed Tuesday which is now considered the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.

It happened at an elementary school in Uwalde, Texas, which is about a four-hour drive from Houston.

Nineteen victims were students. What we do know is that Robb Elementary School has nearly 600 students in the second, third, and fourth grades. Typically, students in these classes are 6 to 10 years old.

The vast majority of Robb Elementary students are Hispanic.

It was not immediately clear how many people were injured, but Uwalde Police Chief Pete Aredonda said there were “several injured”.

Eva Mireles

Eva Mireles was one of the first victims discovered during the shooting at Uwalde School. She was a fourth grade teacher.

She was described as a loving mother and wife who lived life to the fullest.

“She was adventurous. I would definitely say such wonderful things about her. She will definitely be very sad, “said Amber Ibara, a 44-year-old relative from San Antonio.

Anabel Guadeloupe Rodriguez

Anabel Guadeloupe Rodriguez, 10, studied in the 3rd grade of Rob Elementary School.

Her dad spent most of the day Tuesday looking for her. When he spoke to KHOU 11 News earlier in the day, he said no one had any answers about his daughter’s whereabouts.

“They don’t know where she is … her name is not here,” Rodriguez said. “We’re not being admitted to the hospital right now, so we don’t know where to go.”

He later received devastating news that Annabel was one of 19 students killed during the shooting.

Her family said she was in the same class with her cousin, who was also killed. Cousin not identified.

Xavier Javier Lopez

The Associated Press spoke to 54-year-old Lisa Garza of Arlington, Texas, who identified her cousin, 10-year-old Xaver Javier Lopez, as one of the victims.

“He was just a loving 10-year-old boy who just enjoyed life without knowing that this tragedy would happen today,” she said. “He was very lively, he loved to dance with his brothers, his mother. It has just affected us all. “

Uzzia Garcia

Manny Renfrew told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he had received word that his grandson, 8-year-old Uzia Garcia, was among those killed.

“The cutest boy I’ve ever known,” Renfrew said. “I say this not just because he was my grandson.”

Renfra said Uzziah last visited him in San Angelo during spring break.

“We started throwing football together, and I taught him the pattern of passes. “Such a fast little boy, and he could catch the ball so well,” Renfre said. “There were certain plays that I would call that he remembers, and he will do it just the way we practiced.”

We will update this page to learn more about the victims.

What we know about the suspect

According to Governor Greg Abbott, 18-year-old shooter Salvador Ramos of Uwalde.

on the topic: Who was the armed man in the deadly shooting with the Elemental Rob in Uwalde?

Ramos hinted on social media that the attack could be, according to state senator Roland Gutierrez, who said he was informed by state police. He noted that the gunman “suggested the children to be careful.”

Before going to school, Ramos shot his grandmother with two military-style rifles he purchased for his birthday, Gutierrez said. Her condition is currently unknown.

The attack began around 11:30 a.m. when a gunman crashed his car near the school and drove into the building, according to Travis Considine, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Homeland Security. A resident who heard the collision called 911, and two precinct police officers shot themselves with a gunman.

Both officers were shot dead, although it was not immediately clear where the confrontation took place on campus and how much time passed before other officers arrived at the scene.

Governor Greg Abbott said Ramos was killed by officers who responded.

The motives for the shooting are unknown at this time.
