The record for the highest scoring Super Bowl in NFL history stood for nearly 3 decades.

PHOENIX — With the offense settled at this point in this Super Bowl, many fans are wondering if we can pull off a historic result.

According to Google Trendsduring the first two quarters of Super Bowl 2023 there was a spike in search traffic for “highest scoring super bowl.”

What is the most successful Super Bowl?

The the highest scoring Super Bowl in NFL history was Super Bowl 29, which took place in 1995. On it, the San Francisco 49ers beat the San Diego Chargers 49-26 and scored a record 75 points.

Super Bowl 52, held in 2018, nearly broke the record for most points in a Super Bowl. In that game, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots 41-33, scoring 74 points – one shy of the record.

This year, the Philadelphia Eagles wasted little time getting into the lead.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts ran for a 1-yard touchdown to cap an efficient opening drive that went 75 yards in 11 plays. DeVonta Smith was Hurts’ favorite target on the drive, catching three passes for 41 yards.

The Eagles are the first team to return a Super Bowl kickoff and an offensive touchdown since Super Bowl 32, when the Green Bay Packers played the Denver Broncos 25 years ago.

The Chicago Bears also scored on Devin Hester’s kickoff for a TD in Super Bowl 41.

The Kansas City Chiefs quickly tied things up. Their kickoff return was 75 yards in just six plays.
