Two people are dead and another injured after a traffic stop led to a crash near a fire station near Hilliard.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two people were killed and another injured after police say their vehicle crashed after a stop near Hilliard early Friday morning.

The crash happened around 2:55 a.m. near Columbus Fire Station 30 on Fischinger Blvd.

Officer from St Hilliard Police Department stopped a green SUV in the area of ​​Fishinger Boulevard and Park Mill Run Drive.

Hilliard Police told 10TV that prior to the traffic stop, officers were dispatched to a certified gas station located at 4546 Cemetery Road after an alarm went off at the business. As officers investigated, they saw an SUV leaving the area.

When the officer got out of the car, police said the driver of the SUV left the scene at a high rate of speed. The officer followed the driver until the chase began.

The officer found a vehicle that had crashed near the Columbus Fire Station at 30 Fischinger Blvd., and was badly damaged.

Police said there were three people in the car at the time of the accident.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:23 a.m. The man was taken to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Hospital and was pronounced dead at 4:21 a.m., police said.

Another woman was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition but was upgraded to stable condition, police added.

Police did not say if the vehicle was involved in the incident at the gas station.

The Columbus Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and Hilliard Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Fischinger Boulevard remains closed between Mill Run Drive and Smiley Road. Police have not said when the road will reopen.
