WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Westerville Police Department says a man caught on video throwing objects at a restaurant employee and fighting with a customer has been arrested.

Michael Smith, 30, is charged with assault and vandalism, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records.

Police said they were able to identify Smith thanks to a tip from the public after surveillance video was posted in the city about an incident that occurred Sept. 21 at GENJIGO on East Schrock Road.

According to court records, Smith ordered food from the restaurant and left before returning a few minutes later with a question about his order.

While officers were correcting his order, Smith was on the phone, allegedly yelling obscenities and recounting the assault on his girlfriend.

The employee asked Smith to stop yelling profanities and lower his voice.

According to court documents, Smith became angry with the employee and began yelling at her. He continued to get nervous and ended up throwing several objects at the employee, hitting her.

According to court documents, Smith caused damage that forced the business to close and totaled $1,482.90 in damages to the restaurant.

Smith is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
