WhatsApp has made some major changes to the way it implements its one-off images and videos. It also brings a much-requested feature – group chat polls.
In the latest WhatsApp beta update, users who send an image or video as a “one-time view” will now have the option to prevent the recipient of the media from taking screenshots or recording the screen while viewing the media.
Some beta testers who are getting the latest beta version from Play Store might have this feature right now.
How WhatsApp screenshot lock works:
The screenshot lock feature works pretty neat.
When a recipient tries to take a screenshot of the media for one-time viewing, the recipient is never notified, but the attempt is blocked by the WhatsApp API. Similarly, screen recording is also disabled during single viewing of an image or video. Even if the user tries to use third-party add-ons, the image will always be black.
Since the new feature is limited to viewing photos and videos only once, you can still take screenshots of regular chats and discussions even with faded messages. You may not forward, export or save the images or videos you view. The only way the recipient can still capture the photo or video is to use a second device. So it’s always best to be careful about what media you send and who you send it to, even if you enable one-time viewing when sending.
How WhatsApp group polls work
In the latest beta version of WhatsApp, users will be able to set up polls in certain group chats. At this time, only group administrators will be able to set up a poll.
WhatsApp’s new poll feature will allow users to include up to 12 options and sort them in any way they want. Administrators will also have the option to allow users to select more than one option.
When a new vote is taken, the poll is immediately updated to reflect the new result; by clicking “View Votes” on the poll results screen, regular users can view more specific voter information.
