According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the first of two pursuits was sparked when a witness to the theft of the skid steer and trailer alerted police.
MONROE COUNTY, MI — Monroe County SheriffTwo men stole a skid steer and a trailer in Ashe, Michigan on Tuesday.
One of the people, a 34-year-old man from River Rouge, Michigan, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a police chase. The police report said his name is currently being withheld pending formal charges 1st District Court. He is being held in prison on charges of theft, receiving and concealing stolen property, as well as fleeing and eluding.
A second man is still at large after a second police chase after sheriff’s deputies lost sight of a vehicle heading into Detroit city limits.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the initial pursuit was sparked when a witness to the theft of the skid steer and trailer alerted police, who then began pursuing the vehicle, whose tires were punctured with stop sticks before it crashed into the median barrier on I-75 .
The suspect at large fled the scene, stole another vehicle and drove north on I-75 until police lost sight of him.
The incident is still under investigation.
