“After seven years, it’s time,” Noah said during Thursday’s taping. “I realized there was another part of my life that I wanted to continue to explore.”
NEW YORK — Trevor Noah, who succeeded Jon Stewart as host of “The Daily Show” in 2015, will leave the show after seven years.
“After seven years, I realized my time was up,” Noah said as some in the room gasped. “But in the nicest way. Honestly, I’ve loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my biggest challenges, it’s been one of my biggest joys.”
Noah said he feels grateful for his opportunities on the Comedy Central show.
“After seven years, the time has come,” he added. “I realized there was another part of my life that I wanted to continue to explore.”
Noah said returning to stand-up after taking two years off during the pandemic reminded him of a lot he missed. He didn’t specify when his hosting stint would officially end, but said it won’t happen right away.

Noah’s star is certainly rising: he hosted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April and hosted the Tony Awards for the second year in a row.
The South African comedian was relatively unknown in the United States when he took over The Daily Show in 2015 after Stewart stepped down from the role after 16 years hosting the show.
This year, the show received its fifth consecutive Emmy nomination, again losing to Last Night with John Oliver.
The changes come on the heels of several recent changes to the late-night landscape, with James Corden announcing he will step down as host of the Late Late Show in 2023 and TBS announcing the cancellation of “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”
“We are grateful to Trevor for our wonderful partnership over the past seven years,” Comedy Central said spokesperson in a statement to Deadline. “While there is no timetable for his departure, we are working together on the next steps. Looking ahead, we look forward to the next chapter in our 25-plus year history Daily show as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping viewers make sense of the world around them.”
“I never dreamed I’d be here,” Noah said. – All I can say is thank you very much.
