Police say three people are hospitalized in serious condition and three others are in stable condition.

WASHINGTON – A gunman wielding a large kitchen knife killed two people and injured six others in a stabbing on Las Vegas Boulevard before being arrested Thursday, the police said.

Las Vegas police said three people were hospitalized in critical condition and three others were in stable condition after they began receiving 911 calls about the stabbing around 11:40 a.m. on the north end of the Strip.

Police have not released any information about the suspect or a possible motive.

Witnesses told Las Vegas TV stations that the gunman struck multiple locations, and some of the victims appeared to be dancers or street performers posing for photos with tourists on the Strip.

The suspect told the woman he was a chef who wanted to take pictures with some of the girls from the show with his knife, but he started stabbing when the group refused the man’s offer, the woman told KTNV.

Pierre Fandrich told KTNV he didn’t see the stabbing suspect as he walked down the Strip. But he said he thought he heard “three or four female artists laughing,” but it turned out they were screaming.

Fandrich said he saw “a lot of blood” as one woman ran across the bridge, one lying on the ground and another with a stab wound to the back as she tried to help the woman who had fallen.

Fandrich also told KTNV that he thought one of the victims fell off the bridge because there was so much blood on the ground.

Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak posted a message on social media saying, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.”

“At the state level, we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to make resources available on the ground and ensure that the Las Vegas Strip remains a safe and welcoming place for all,” Sisolak said.
