WhatsApp calls are a convenient way to communicate with your loved ones, but you can’t join a call unless someone adds you. The Meta-owned company has started rolling out a brand new calling feature called Call Links. Users can use this feature to join any WhatsApp call by simply clicking the link (URL).

Users can do this by creating a link and sending it to their friends, family and other conversation participants. The video calling features of WhatsApp Call Links are comparable to those of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.

The best thing about using call links for call invitations is that participants who aren’t in your contact list can join the call without having their phone number saved by the admin. But unlike apps that are likely to include video conferencing, WhatsApp will need to be downloaded before you can use the links to call. You can create a link to a call from the Calls tab.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the Links to Call option is currently rolling out to some users and may take a few days or a week. He also said that the WhatsApp development team is testing secure encrypted video calls for up to 32 people and that more information about this will be released soon.

Steps to create WhatsApp call links:

  • Update your WhatsApp app by browsing the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
  • After opening the WhatsApp app, go to the “Calls” tab.
  • The Create link to call option will only be available if you have access to this feature.
  • When you select Create Call Link, WhatsApp will create a call link that you can share with other users.
  • You should copy the link and paste it in the chat window of the desired contacts.

The new call links feature isn’t a big deal, although it might come in handy if you want to avoid adding callers manually. You can simply send the link and others who receive it will be able to join the challenge.
